Horse Riding Hats
Styalways Saddlery are proud to offer an extensive range of horse riding hats/ helmets available to buy from our online tack shop. We supply childs' riding hats, adult hats, for both male and female fit aswell as hat accessories such as riding hat covers and silks.
A riding hat is the most important purchase you will make when buying your equestrian clothing, whether you are just starting out for the first time in riding or competing at the highest levels. A riding hat will provide you with some although not complete protection for your head should you be unfortunate enough to fall from or even be kicked by a horse.
Horse riding hats should be worn at all times when riding and it is also recommended that riding hats be worn when handling your horse from the ground. All riders under the age of 14 must wear a riding hat although we suggest this applies to all ages.
Riding hats do not last forever. Over-time the protective padding can compact causing the hat to become loose on your head. If this happens to your riding hat or it suffers a severe impact then for your own personal safety your hat MUST be replaced. It is not recommended that you purchase a second-hand riding hat as it is hard to tell if the riding hat as already been subject to a fall. The protection a riding hat gives can be greatly reduced after a fall even though the outside of the hat may look perfectly fine.
Please make sure when you are looking to purchase a horse riding hat that the hat conforms to the current approved standards, i.e. PAS0105, BSEN1384 or EN1384. You could visit the BETA website for more detailed information on the approved standards.
Here at Styalways Saddlery we sell riding hats from such quality names as Harry Hall, Christy's, Design Headwear, Champion, amongst others, who are all renowned manufacturers for the equestrian world and their riding hats are of superb quality. We have all standards of riding hats and helmets available now at the lowest possible prices.
Four Basic styles of Riding hat :-
Classic Riding Hat
The most traditional of all riding hats and the preferred one with most riders. Traditional riding hats can be velvet or other materials with a hard peak and they normally come in black, brown and navy or even 2 tone colours.
Scull Cap or Jockey
This riding hat has no peak and was traditionally worn by racing jockeys, but has now become popular among other riders. You can purchase peaked covers called silks that are put over the plain scull cap. Silks can come in a wide variety of colours and fabrics.
Endurance Scull Protector
A horse riding hat that looks very similar to a cycle helmet, is extremely lightweight and ventilated, perfect for riding long distance.
Top Hat or Bowler
The Top hat or Bowler type Riding hat, are used more for Dressage, Side-saddle, or evening performances in the show ring. These hats, look like a normal Top hat or Bowler, but have a hardened cell to provide some protection. They do not have chin straps and thus no longer conform to the normal safety standards.
